5 Reasons to Elope: Why Eloping is Better than Having a Wedding

December 4, 2021

To elope or not to elope that is the question. Elopements are small intimate weddings that reflect the couple as a whole. Elopements are truly about your relationship and no one else. It’s a day that is designed for you, a day where you get to do what you want, where you want, and how you want. It’s an epic celebration of your love for one another. If you didn’t already know, elopements and weddings have some pretty big differences. Although both are amazing in their own ways I’m here to tell you why you should elope and the benefits of eloping so that you can decide what speaks to you and your heart. Even if it means throwing the idea of a traditional wedding out the window. The following are 5 Reasons to Elope:

5 Reasons to Elope:

  1. Choices

One of my favorite reasons to elope is that there are no rules, expectations, or obligations for the day. You have SO many choices to choose from and no one can say anything about it. Especially when it comes down to locations the choices are endless! You can elope in the forest with an abundance of nature surrounding you while you say your vows, tie the knot while overlooking a beautiful cliffside view, or have your ceremony near a river while you listen to the gentle flow of the stream pass by. The world is your oyster! Elopements are all about having an intimate, memorable experience so if you dream of getting married on the beach and running into the ocean with your lover or having a cottage core elopement with a boat filled with flowers while kayaking down the Jordan River, eloping may be for you!

  1. People

Since elopements are all about the couple, you have the choice to decide how many people come to your wedding as well as who. In general, elopements have a lot fewer people than traditional weddings. In this case, you can set boundaries on who you want to invite and who you don’t. You don’t need to feel like you are obligated to invite your entire family, even those you aren’t close with just because you are getting married. Elopements give you the freedom to have the “just us” wedding where it’s just you and your partner and no one else or a couple of guests such as your parents or even just you and your dog! (My sessions are ALWAYS pet-friendly!). Everything that goes behind planning an elopement is intentional; it’s about who YOU want to be there and not about what others want.

  1. Intimacy and Meaningfulness

One of the most popular reasons to elope is that elopements are so much more intimate than bigger weddings because you get the chance to have the “Just us” experience. You can be your authentic self with one another and not have to worry about what others are thinking and how you need to act. Not only that but if you are someone who hates being in the spotlight, elopements would be perfect for you! Some people like big weddings where they can have a fun party, dance, and drink and others like the complete opposite. There’s something for everybody.

elopement, elope, wedding, love, couple, boho wedding.

In addition, elopements are more meaningful in the aspect that you can do something that is very close to your heart. Maybe you elope somewhere that holds special memories or a location that is intimate and close to home or even a place you have yet to explore! Imagine exchanging your vows while embracing each other overlooking a gorgeous lake view up in the mountains. All possible when you choose to elope.

  1. Stress

The reality is that big weddings can cause some major stress. Not saying that elopements can’t either but there are a lot more factors with weddings, from wedding planning, accommodating others, to seating charts and more! It all can feel very overwhelming and stressful especially if you are doing it all on your own. With elopements, you don’t have to worry about accommodating others or things like seating charts especially if you don’t have guests. Not only that but (most of the time) elopements are drama-free! You don’t have to worry about possibly not getting along with a certain person or a family member. You get the chance to set boundaries and say that this day is about you and you want it to be just the two of you.

Your wedding experience should be stress-free and full of lots of love and laughter whether it be an elopement or a full wedding. Choose the day that will provide you with just that; love, laughter, and ease, a day that brings you so much joy and happiness. A day you will always cherish and remember.

  1. Adventure

If you are thinking about eloping in the first place, you are probably considering having a mini adventure or experiencing a new place you have yet to explore, somewhere with gorgeous views and an abundance of nature, another common reason to elope and why many people choose to elope over weddings. This is definitely one of the main reasons why I love elopements and why a lot of my clients love it too! Elopements provide you with the unique experience of eloping on a gorgeous pebble beach under a breathtaking waterfall or in a forest surrounded by historic redwood trees that stood the test of time. I mean who wouldn’t want that? Definitely an unforgettable experience that you wouldn’t be able to have at a country club.

Just remember when you are trying to decide to elope or not to elope to ask yourself what truly matters to you as a couple. Your day should be a beautiful, joyous day that you will always remember and cherish for the rest of your lives so make sure to do exactly what you want whether it be an elopement or a wedding.
